ESports Tournaments find more attention from India’s leading brands: Esports has been witnessing massive growth in India over the past few years. Many people have started showing an active interest in the sport, and have even formed professional careers out of the same. Naturally, Investors and sponsorers along with esports organisations have also cropped up to continue its progress. Recent reports by FICCI-EY Media and Entertainment suggest that esports industry as well Esports tournaments are finding more attention as the community braces themselves for more investment in coming years. Indian gamers are taking the benefits of advertising money which is coming into e-sports. The prize money pool for premier tournaments can sometimes even cross the Rs 1-2 crore mark. According to FICCI-EY Media and Entertainment, India’s e-sports industry is growing at a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 46%. The Esports market is expected to be worth around Rs 1,100 crore by 2025. Furthermore, the reports also clarifies that the number of e-sports players in India doubled – from three lakh in 2020 to six lakh in 2021.

ESports Tournaments find more attention in India

Meanwhile, the number of competitions has also increased significantly – e-sports teams have grown by over 50%, from 60,000 in 2020 to a lakh in 2021. The total prize money in 2021 crossed Rs 20 crore and the viewership of thr same also increased from six lakh hours in 2020 to two million hours in 2021.

The rapidly growing esports industry has also drawn interest from leading brands from the country. Reports ‘FICCI-EY’ further suggest that in 2020, only 45 brands advertised in e-sports competitions, while the number grew to 72 in 2021. A total of 100 brands or even more are expected to partner with e-sports tournaments in 2022. Brands like Intel, Monster, Red Bull, MTV, among others, have already partnered with e-sports tournaments, till now.

Piyush Kumar, founder & CEO, Rooter added,

“The Indian gaming industry has changed significantly over the last five years. Before 2018, India’s gaming market was dominated by casual gaming. People spent more time playing games like ‘Ludo’. Casual games don’t require high commitment, in terms of the time spent, frequency and money.”

So, the Esports community are in safe hands to go leaps and bounds in the coming years. With more investments, we can see it reaching greater heights.
