WWE News: Bobby Lashley on leaving WWE: Former world champion Bobby Lashley has, over the years, cemented his place in the Stamford-based promotion as one of its top stars, boasting of a dominating and destructive wrestling style. Bobby, who debuted in the company in the year 2005, had a notable first run as he became both United States Champion and ECW Champion during that tenure. However, he was released from his contract in 2008 which led to rumors that he was having payment issues with the promotion.

In a recent video posted by RainmakerNYC, the 46-year-old dismissed those long-standing rumors claiming that he was making a fair amount of money at the time.

“No, that’s 100 percent not true. I was making a tremendous amount of money then.”

He further went on to elaborate that parting ways with WWE helped him to try his luck in MMA.

“It was an opportunity for me to go fight and legitimize my character a little bit. So I fought for eight years under [Scott] Coker and Bellator and Strikeforce and everything else, and now coming back … I take all that with me to kinda legitimize my character a little bit.” (h/t WrestlingInc)

It is to be noted that Lashley holds a 15-2 record in MMA with 12 of those wins coming via knockout or submission.

Bobby Lashley is scheduled to face Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel

Speaking of wrestlers with a destructive wrestling style, Lashley is scheduled to go one-on-one with the Beast Incarnate at WWE Crown Jewel.

Brock recently made his return to the promotion since his SummerSlam loss to Roman Reigns and chose to humiliate the former United States Champion. The rivalry intensified as Bobby called him out on the next episode of RAW to spear him twice – one through the barricade and the other on the announce table. The stage is now perfectly set for a mega clash between the two powerhouses at WWE’s upcoming premium live event.

The two superstars are no strangers to each other as Lashley had previously defeated Lesnar at Royal Rumble with help from Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman. Who do you think will emerge as the winner in the much-anticipated bout? Sound off in the comments section below!
