What is La Nina? – In Spanish, La Nina means Little Girl. But in meteorological terms, it is “a cold event”. It is a weather pattern that occurs in the Pacific Ocean. In this event, strong winds blow warm water at the ocean’s surface from South America to Indonesia. As the warm water moves west, cold water from the deep rises to the surface near the coast of South America. As a result, rain clouds form over the Oceania region and result in heavy rainfall.

Australia MET department expects as much as 100mm of rain over the next four days, mostly in the evening. The local authorities have already given out yellow alerts for flood-prone areas. India vs Pakistan match is estimated to be worth $7 million in ticket sales and TV viewership as over 1 billion people are expected to tune in.

“Particularly for the matches in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, there’s a higher chance than usual of rainfall. So, a higher chance of games potentially being washed out,” Sky News meteorologist Rob Sharpe told news.com.au.

IND vs PAK Live: Melbourne weather to be gloomier, 80% chances of rain predicted on October 23 – According to weather.com, the Melbourne weather is expected to remain cloudy all day in on October 23. There are 80% chances of rain, meaning the match could be called off entirely or will be shortened. Interestingly, rain has played spoilsport in this edition of the T20 World Cup.

The warm-up match between West Indies and Netherlands on October 12 was abandoned without a ball being bowled. The match was washed out in Melbourne. On October 13, Zimbabwe vs Namibia game, Sri Lanka vs Ireland & Scotland vs UAE were called off. All three matches were scheduled to be played in Melbourne.

India’s official second warm-up game against New Zealand on October 19 has been abandoned. This match was supposed to be played in Brisbane. South Africa’s game against Bangladesh has also been called off due to rain in Gabba. As many as six matches have produced no result.

1) What if the MATCH is wiped out by RAIN? Will it be moved to the next day? The answer is NO. There are reserve days for both semifinals and the final, but no other matches have a reserve day. This means in case match is abandoned due to RAIN – both teams will split points & the match will not be moved to the next day.
