Sourav Ganguly is all set to be named the new CAB President in the coming weeks as the Bengal cricket body goes through some key changes. As per The Telegraph, the former BCCI president met with incumbent Avishek Dalmiya on Wednesday. The duo spent over an hour and a half together, potentially discussing the succession.

The ex-India captain will return to CAB and take over from Dalmiya as president. Dalmiya meanwhile will move to the IPL GC. The 50-year-old, as sources believe, would file his nomination on Saturday. His panel should also be finalised by the time he resumes office, which will be after the October 31 AGM.

“Now, if he suddenly changes his mind, then obviously his brother Snehasish Ganguly, who was the president-elect earlier, will get the post,” a CAB insider said.

Sourav Ganguly’s BCCI Achievements:

  • Although credited to Jay Shah, it is during Ganguly’s tenure, BCCI successfully made IPL 2022 happen in India during Covid.
  • BCCI bagged Rs 48,000 Cr through IPL Media Rights deal.
  • The u-19 team won the World Cup.
  • Ganguly installed Rahul Dravid as the head coach.
  • Another stalwart VVS Laxman became NCA director.
  • Women’s IPL blueprint was prepared.
  • India won the Test series in Australia.
  • The women’s team won the silver medal at CWG.

Ganguly’s panel is likely to be elected unopposed with no other camp in the running.

A senior CAB official told the same publication, “Sourav’s panel, too, should be finalised on Thursday. It appears people from his panel will take up the office-bearers’ posts as chances of anyone coming up from any other camp is minimal. A group did make an attempt earlier, but they are all quiet now.”

Ganguly served as CAB president from 2015 to 2019, before taking up the BCCI presidency. Should he return to the office, his brother and former Bengal player Snehasish will continue as secretary. Debabrata Das will be named joint secretary as per reports.
