Heading into the World Cup, the focus will be on Indian bowlers especially the pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the team’s premium spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

  • With 35 wickets in 26 innings since the last T20 World Cup, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been India’s top T20I wicket-taker.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar will have more on his plate with the ball in the world event without Jasprit Bumrah.
  • Bhuvneshwar is indeed good with the new ball, but with his pace, if the ball is not swinging, he will probably struggle in Australia.
  • He is a very good bowler as he can swing both ways, and has the yorker. But you need pace in Australia.

Yuzvendra Chahal after a brilliant IPL 2022 had been in a fine run of form. But he has been expensive in the last few games. In the last 10 matches, he has bagged 11 wickets with an economy rate of 7.68.

But a wrist-spinner does have his perks in T20s. Yuzvendra Chahal could be that sort of a spinner. The leggie has two warm-up games to get his rhythm back after conceding 49 runs in 4 overs for just one wicket against Western Australia XI in the 1st practice match.

India is currently in Brisbane. Men in Blue will take on Australia and New Zealand in official T20 World Cup warm-up games on October 17 and October 19, respectively, at The Gabba. India, the 2007 T20 World Cup champions, is in Group 2 of the T20 World Cup’s Super 12 stage together with Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, and two qualifiers.

The Men in Blue begin their campaign on October 23 at the MCG against their bitter rivals Pakistan. Thereafter, they play on October 27 at the SCG against the first qualifier team, on October 30 at Perth Stadium against South Africa, on November 2 at Adelaide Oval against Bangladesh, and on November 6 (against the second qualifier side at MCG).

India squad for ICC T20 World Cup:

Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur will join Ravi Bishnoi and Shreyas Iyer as backups and will travel to Australia shortly.
