SMAT 2022: Prithvi Shaw 100 – Prithvi Shaw has responded fittingly to the selectors’ snub with a blazing 46-ball century against Assam in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali 2022 season. Shaw was in some mood as he was playing in one gear. It was raining boundaries and sixes as Shaw struck six sixes and 10 fours. Shaw has repeatedly been shown the door by selectors in the white-ball formats. Either the right-hand batter is ignored due to fitness issues, or due to his disciplinary issues. The right-hand batter though has kept answering with the bat in hand. Follow SMAT 2022 Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.

  • Shaw has not been considered in the white-ball formats since 2021.

Why the selectors continue to ignore Shaw despite his thunderous performances

Shaw has been repeatedly ignored due to fitness issues. The selectors have spoken in length about his weight issues and mobility. They have told the 22-year-old to be fit and follow fitness protocols. Shaw did not meet expectations of them in that regard as failed the YO-Yo Test back in 2022, three weeks before the start of IPL. In terms of batting, Shaw has hardly put a foot wrong as he has scored 2,410 runs in 46 List A matches at a strike rate of 125.19.

Shaw recently said he will work on fitness and try to meet the selector’s demands. Mumbai coach and management are working on the youngster to make him lean and healthy.

Can Prithvi Shaw make a comeback in the T20 format?

The Mumbai batter can make a comeback in the team as former India coach Ravi Shastri hinted that Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma may quit the T20 format after the World Cup due to workload.

“Come what may, I see India having a new team after this World Cup, much like the team which went in 2007—there was no Tendulkar, Dravid, and Ganguly. Dhoni took the side out and won the tournament. The same thing can happen. It is not that they are not good enough, but you want them for the other two formats, a World Cup is coming next year, so you don’t want to burden those players,” Shastri said at the Mumbai Press meet.

If Shaw keeps his letting his bat do the talking in domestic tournaments & IPL, he has the golden opportunity to be back in the fray.
