IND vs WA-XI Live: Rishabh Pant wastes yet another golden opportunity to impress Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid
- Pant was promoted up the order to open the innings in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the 2 warm-up match against WA. But he failed to grab the chance as he was out for a single-digit score.
- Worst, the 25-year-old also did not keep wickets as Karthik was the designated wicketkeeper chosen for the game.
- In the 15-odd T20I matches played in 2022, Pant has not scored a single fifty. The southpaw’s strike rate is also a dismal looking 127.
- Pant has not grabbed his chances as an opener, nor as a finisher of the side in the T20 format.
- With two consecutive failures in two WC warm-up matches, Pant’s chances have all but gone to smoke to be named in the Indian playing XI for World Cup.
T20 World Cup 2022: Dinesh Karthik fails to live up to the finisher tag
Karthik, who is the designated finisher of the Indian team, failed to live up to that tag. He scored a sedate 10 off 14 runs and struggled for timing. In the last seven T20Is, the veteran has crossed 30 only once. Yes, he has faced very few balls, but the magic that he created in IPL for RCB is missing. Karthik also failed to grab a golden opportunity at the number four role in the third T20I against South Africa. After scoring a quickfire 46 runs, he got out while playing a reckless sweep shot.
Currently, Karthik is batting at number six for team India. He is the finisher, along with Hardik Pandya. On current form, the wicketkeeper bat will get a nod ahead of Pant. But Karthik’s form is a concern for India.
