League to be held across three cities for first time

For the first time in the history of the league, the matches will be conducted across only three venues this year. This year, the matches are scheduled to be conducted at Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad in three different phases. The first leg will begin on 7th October, 2022 at the Shree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru and move to Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, Pune on 27th October for its next leg. The schedule for the third leg is not yet released.

No Caravan format to be followed despite no bio-bubble

Ever since the league began, the tournament was held as a caravan format as the matches would be conducted  on the home cities of each of the 12 teams. However last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the entire edition last year was successfully conducted inside a bio-bubble created at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Bengaluru. This time, the league will not be held inside a bio-bubble but the earlier caravan format will also not be in place. Instead, the organisers have planned to conduct the league across only three cities for the first time in its history.

Fans can witness PKL action live from the stadium after three years

With the Pro Kabaddi action all set to return to indoor courts for the first time since 2019, fans will also be back to the stadium to witness and cheer for their favourite players and teams. The last time fans witnessed live Kabaddi action from the stadium was during the seventh edition of the league in 2019. However after the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the entire edition was cancelled that year and in 2021, PKL made a return but it was held inside a bio-secure bubble at a single venue with fans not allowed to watch the action. This time all the venues will have 100% capacity and that would serve as a great morale-booster for all the teams and players who will be in action.

Fans can witness all the 12 teams LIVE in action within the first two days

For the first time in the history of the league, all the 12 teams can be witnessed live in action by the spectators at the stadium within the first two days of the league. Over the years. Pro Kabaddi League has witnessed double-headers and single headers on match days. Last year, triple-headers were introduced for the first time. Called as ‘Triple Panga’ it soon struck a chord with the audience as fans witnessed six teams in action for the first time on television during the last edition. This time, they can experience the ‘Triple Panga’ live from the stadium as the league has stuck with the triple headers this season too.

The Triple headers can be witnessed only on weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and the league is set to begin with a ‘Triple Panga’ night on the first day of the season on October 7 with Defending champions Daband Delhi taking on U Mumbai in the first contest. Bengaluru Bulls will then lock horns with Telugu Titans, while Jaipur Pink Panthers will face UP Yoddha in the last contest of the night. On the second day all the remaining six teams will play their first matches of the season.

Pawan Sehrawat to play for new franchise

Pawan Sehrawat, who has emerged as one of the greatest riders in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League will be seen in action for a different team this time. Sehrawat, who had been part of Bengaluru Bulls for four seasons out of the five seasons he featured in the Pro Kabaddi League broke the banks by becoming the costliest player ever in the history of the league as he was sold for ₹2.26 crores to Tamil Thalaivas at the auction this year. Sehrawat was the Most Valuable Player during the Season 6 of the league during which he helped his franchise Bengaluru Bulls win the title. He also had a great season in the previous edition and will now look to carry forward the same form for his new franchise Tamil Thalaivas.
