We at InsideSport.IN picked out five players to look out for as India hope to redeem winning ways:
Sandesh Jhingan
The main concern for India against Singapore was the defense. The absence of a veteran defender caused a lot of wide spaces in between which were easily exploited by Singapore’s forwards. Sandesh Jhingan was unavailable to be featured owing to travel issues.

Jhingan who has been a mainstay in the team for quite some time now boasts of experience and as he returns against Vietnam it will be an affair to watch how he transforms the heart of the defense.
Akash Mishra
Following his strong performance, the Germany-trained left-back has recently been added to Igor Stimac’s list of favourites. Mishra was a regular for Manuel Marquez’s Hyderabad FC in the Indian Super League last season, and he was especially important on the left flank. The 20-year-old has recently produced some key performances for the Blue Tigers as well as across the various ranks of the National team.
Mishra, despite being discontinued, is a prime example of an Indian Arrows project graduate. Mishra is set to be an asset for the Indian Football Team for a long time, having replaced some veterans, with his consistent display of agility and pace, as well as his impressive defensive qualities.
Against Singapore, Akash showed a standout quality as he paired up beautifully with Ashique Kuruniyan keeping the left flank lively. Mishra also provided some major aversions to the defensive mistakes of Ali and Gahlot to keep India in the game.

Ashique Kuruniyan
Head coach Igor Stimac stated during the 2023 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers that Ashique Kuruniyan will always be a part of his team due to his work rate and agility. Despite ATK Mohun Bagan’s recent stale performances in the Durand Cup 2022 and the AFC Cup inter-zonal semifinals, Ashique’s performances sparked some interest. Ashique had recently put in some strong performances for the Blue Tigers.
His constant efforts kept the left flank energetic while keeping the defenders alert. Kuruniyan provided the assist for Sahal Abdul Samad’s incredible 91-minute strike against Afghanistan, which helped India maintain its unblemished record in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.

It was Kuruniyan who provided India with the much-needed equalizer ahead of halftime against Singapore. He not only set himself up but put continuous efforts into Colaco and Chhetri as well.
Brandon Fernandes
Although Igor Stimac’s midfield against Singapore. featured a talented group of players, Anirudh Thapa has a wealth of experience. The combination did not work out for some reason. Roshan, Sahal, and Jeakson’s lack of experience weighed heavily on the team as they failed to connect with the final third.
IND vs VIE LIVE: From Brandon Fernandes to Sandesh Jhingan- Five players to watch in India’s encounter against Vietnam-Check OutThe lack of a makeshift defensive midfielder created a gap between the midfield and defense, which Singapore capitalized on. Playing Sahal out of position rendered him oblivious to his role and thus unable to contribute to the attack. The solution to all the problems lies in Brandon Fernandes who boasts of experience as well as agility. He was a pivotal player in India’s Asian Cup Campaign and will look to help India redeem itself.

Lallianzuala Chhangte
Lallianzuala Chhangte was recently called up to the National team following their impressive performance in the Durand Cup 2022. Chhangte won the Golden Boot for Mumbai City FC in the tournament after scoring seven goals and providing three assists in seven appearances. The attack would gain a lot of speed thanks to Chhangte’s speed.
He is a versatile player with excellent positioning and dribbling abilities who understands how to finish a goal. His skills and vision on the field position him to be one of India’s most important players in the tournament. In addition, Chhangte’s current form will help the team’s scoring chances.
Igor Stimac’s decision not to bring Chhangte early against Singapore, who was on a scoring spree in the earlier games, is questionable. Lest the Blue Tigers solve their attacking problems and stop relying solely on Sunil Chhetri it will be a huge reason for being wary for the coach.
