“I do not think that these losing matches is a problem for India. They are phases, which comes and go. As long as one realises and pulls up their socks at the right time, it will be okay. I don’t think it is a worry,” Gaekwad told InsideSport.

“In a way, it is good that such things happened before the main event. So you are always more careful about it. You are also more prepared for unforeseen things. They will be conscious of where they lack, what needs to be done and so on and areas of improvement as well.”

In the last T20 match as well, India were beaten by Australia in Mohali. Even before the series started, India’s show in the Asia Cup was a big flop.

Despite going into the continental competition as the favourites to defend their crowd, India did not even make it to the final. The old habit of failing in big events came to the fore with India losing both their crunch games against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4.

But Gaekwad is looking at it in a positive manner despite the World Cup being round the corner. He believes that the phase has come before the World Cup, and gives the management time to address the situation.

“I do not think that these losing matches is a problem for India. They are phases, which comes and go. As long as one realises and pulls up their socks at the right time, it will be okay. I don’t think it is a worry,” Gaekwad told InsideSport.

When Gaekwad talks about the areas of improvement, the bowling department comes into focus. They have been found wanting in the Asia Cup, especially at the death. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has not been at his best in the last few matches. He has come under criticism.

But, the team will be looking at Jasprit Bumrah to solve their woes ahead of the World Cup. The Indian speedster did not play in the Asia Cup due to back injury, and was also rested in the India vs Australia 1st T20.

With India’s spearhead set to play in the India vs Australia second T20 in Nagpur, Rohit Sharma and co will hope for things to turn around. They currently trail three-match series 0-1 too.
