IND vs AUS: Legendary India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is fuming with anger and has suggested Journalist to ask skipper Rohit Sharma this question. India played Umesh Yadav in the team instead of Deepak Chahar. Interestingly, Yadav is not even part of team India during T20 World Cup, yet he got to play the first T20I against Australia. Meanwhile, Chahar is part of the T20 team as a standby player, and he did not get a game. Gavaskar is livid and said this question should be asked next time in the press conference. “I think it’s a question best addressed to the team management as to what their thinking was to take someone like Umesh Yadav, who is not even in the reserves or the standbys for the World Cup and not playing Deepak Chahar,” Gavaskar said during a discussion on Sports Today.
“So that is a question best addressed at the next media conference to the team management as to why they picked Umesh Yadav and not Deepak Chahar. Unless of course, Chahar had a niggle, which we don’t know anything about,” he concluded.

IND vs AUS: Why Gavaskar is Livid on Umesh Yadav being played instead of Chahar?
- Chahar returned to the Indian team after a long layoff, yet he was not preferred in the first match against Australia.
- Yadav, who had not played a T20I for over a year was selected ahead of Chahar due to his IPL exploits.
- Yadav took enough wickets in the power play for KKR in IPL 2022 season. Management thought he is a like-for-like replacement for Shami.
- But it was not able as the KKR pacer was smacked for 16 runs in his first over.
- Gavaskar was angry because he felt Chahar should have played as he would have got enough game time before T20 World Cup.
“Deepak Chahar is also coming out of an injury. But you need these leg miles under your belt before you go into a big tournament like the World Cup. If you got a Deepak Chahar as a standby bowler and suddenly in Australia, somebody gets injured, and he has to come in, he is not going to do a proper job because he wouldn’t get the rhythm,” he said.
