Vengsarkar for BCCI President? Former India player Dilip Vengsarkar is ready for it, ‘but there is too much of politics’

The former player has worked in different capacities after retiring from the sport. He has worn the hat of the BCCI chief selector and also part of the Mumbai Cricket Association. But, being a BCCI president is a different matter altogether.

“See, I would love to the BCCI president, but then there is too much politics involved in that you know…..If I am offered that role, definitely, I am ready for it. Let me tell you one thing, I will do a much better job than many others,” Vengsarkar said on Sportstar’s Wednesdays with W.V. episode. He was in discussion with another former player WV Raman.

Vengsarkar’s statement comes at an interesting phase. The Supreme Court showed green light to the board, allowing them restrictions in cooling off period and amendments as well. It has also allowed President Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah to be in power at the BCCI till 2025.

With this verdict of the Supreme Court recently, there is a possibility of an election taking place as well. The Annual General Meeting is scheduled for this month and it will be interesting to see if there is any development in this regard.

Be it his role as an administrator or being a player, he met with success. It was during his time as the BCCI chief selector that he picked Virat Kohli for the first time in the Indian team in 2008.

When one talks about his role as a player for India with the bat, he was one of the best in the 70s and 80s. Overall, he accumulated 6868 runs in Test cricket along with 17 Test centuries. He played 245 matches for India, including 116 Tests and 129 ODIs.

He was one of the best players against short pitch deliveries as well. He shone in foreign soil while playing against mighty opponents.
