Both the players are on the verge of creating history as Swiatek is the first-ever woman from Poland to reach the US Open final, while Jabeur is the first-ever woman from her continent Africa to reach the final at the year-end major. While Swiatek has already won two Grand Slam titles at the French Open, Jabeur is eyeing her first-ever title in a major.

  • Having won two Grand Slam titles on clay, Iga Swiatek is eyeing her maiden hard court major title.
  • Swiatek dominated the WTA circuit completely earlier this year with a dream run of winning 37 consecutive matches, during which she won the Qatar Open, Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open, Stuttgart Open, Italian Open and French Open.
  • However her run came to an end during the Wimbledon this year, where she lost in the third round against Alize Cornet in straight sets.
  • Since then she failed to go past the quarterfinal at her home tournament in Poland Open and bowed out from the second round at Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters.
  • At the US Open she came back to form as she won the first three matches all in straight sets against unseeded Jasmine Paolini, Sloane Stephens and Lauren Davis.
  • In the fourth round, she faced a scare from Jule Niemeier as she lost the first set, however she won the next four sets dropping just four games to enter the semifinal.
  • She defeated eighth seed Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinal to become the first Polish woman to enter the US Open semifinal.
  • In the semifinal against sixth seed Aryna Sabalenka, she yet again lost the first set but won the next two sets dropping just five games to enter her maiden final at the Flushing Meadows.

  • Ons Jabeur gave a terrific performance in the semifinal as she defeated Alison Riske in straight sets to advance to her maiden US Open final.
  • The victory was very commendable as Alison Riske had 13 consecutive victories to her name until the match and also did not lose a single set in the tournament, Jabeur just dominated such an opponent and stormed past her with utmost ease.
  • She is just behind Iga Swiatek in terms of the number of wins at the WTA Tour this year and faces the World No.1 as she eyes her maiden Grand Slam title.
  • Jabeur started the tournament by clinching straight set victories over USA’s Madison Brengle and Elizabeth Mandlik in the first two rounds.
  • In the third round she faced 31st seed Shelby Rogers and dropped the first set but came back in the contest to win the match and advanced to the fourth round.
  • Jabeur then defeated Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets to enter her maiden US Open quarterfinal.
  • She was then up against Ajla Tomljanovic, who defeated Serena Williams earlier in the tournament, but despite a good fight from the Australian, Jabeur won the match in straight sets.
  • Earlier this year, she reached her maiden Grand Slam final at the Wimbledon, but lost to Elena Rybakina in straight sets.

Swiatek vs Jabeur Head-to-Head: Both the players have played four games against each other so far and the head-to-head record stands 2-2. They last met at the Italian Open final in Rome with Swiatek winning the contest in straight sets. Having already won two Grand Slam finals in her career and being the World No.1, Swiatek enters the contest as the favourite. But Jabeur has been in good touch and if she can maintain the same form that she showed against Caroline Garcia in the semifinal, she might have an upper hand against the Polish.
