IND vs PAK: Fans angry, accuse ‘BCCI has leaked India Playing XI vs Pakistan via this cryptic tweet’

Why New India? – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the two pillars of India’s white-ball team for the past decade. But having received a rude jolt at this very venue 10 months back during the T20 World Cup, the duo exactly know where they stand and what they need to do to turn the tables.

While Rohit will be eager to test his ultra-aggressive batting template against the Asian giants, for Kohli it will be the perfect platform to return to form after enduring a tough phase in the last few years. There would be a bigger picture also and that is to set the core combination for the T20 World Cup in Australia in order by the end of this tournament.

Add Dinesh Karthik and Arshdeep Singh to the mix, both have come out as two important players in India’s approach. If Karthik can smack the last 24 balls to put pressure on the opponent, Arshdeep’s venomous death-overs bowling has been a treat to watch.

Then there is Hardik Pandya. A fitter and better Hardik 2.0 has already caused trouble against every team. He is in excellent form with the bat while he has troubled batters with his ball at 140kmph.

Why Pakistan are unfamiliar? With no bilateral contests between the cross-border neighbours for 10 years, both teams do not know much about their opponents. The lack of regular games means that Indo-Pak rivalries are rather held between unfamiliar foes rather than familiar ones.

One can’t plan a lot against an opposition whom a team plays once or twice a year, while one has to expect the unexpected. The last meeting India played Pakistan, they didn’t have any idea how much Shaheen Shah Afridi had improved. The result was a 10-wicket defeat.

IND vs PAK LIVE Score: Unanswered questions?

  • Despite the new approach, it’s opener and vice-captain KL Rahul who hasn’t quite fit in the plans.
  • He missed a bulk portion of India’s preparation due to injury and during the time, he spent on field, he hasn’t looked convincing.
  • Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli are two options. But Team India would want to avoid a golden duck embarrassment on Kohli’s 100th T20I.
  • That leaves Kohli and SKY as only two options to open. It is likely that in Shaheen Afridi’s absence, it will be KL Rahul.
  • Pant or Dinesh Karthik? By the looks of it, there is no doubt that Pant will be the first choice.
  • But adding Karthik means sacrificing a spinner or an all-rounder in Deepak Hooda.
  • Three specialist spinners or three specialist pacers? The dry and slow Dubai wicket will be a heaven for spinners. But the pitch is new and that could indicate using three pacers.
  • With Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, it is likely that Hardik will be made to bowl 4 overs if Karthik is to be slotted in.
  • Ravindra Jadeja is set to be one of the first choices due to his all-round ability. That means, there will be no place for Ravi Bishnoi or Ravichandran Ashwin.
