Sanjeev Gupta’s all 21 complaints are still pending at the Supreme Court. But the mere words ‘Conflict of Interest’ have forced Sachin Tendulkar to stay away from taking any position at the BCCI or NCA. Similarly, Rahul Dravid was reluctant to take up the NCA Director job due to the same. Eventually, he had to step down from his position at India Cements, which owns Chennai Super Kings.

The conflict of cases became a regular thing in Indian cricket when the Supreme Court overhauled BCCI’s constitution back in 2016 as per RM Lodha’s recommendations. As per the recommendations, cricketers, BCCI office-bearers or state association officials cannot hold two positions that can be abused to take help the other.

With the amount of conflict of interest complaints, many had shied away from taking the role of CAC (Cricket Advisory Committee) that helps BCCI select coaches. However, Gupta who took BCCI by storm, has gone off the limelight.

“Nothing of mine was at stake. It was Supreme Court of India verdicts sanctity & compliance was at stake. I selflessly without any vested interest combated day & in day out since 4th Jan 2016, when Lodha Committee submitted their Lodha Reforms Report to Supreme Court of India , I entered with empty hands on 4 Jan 2016 with sole pure intent of compliance of Supreme Court verdicts & on 20 Aug 2022 I exited with empty hands only,” Sanjeev Gupta wrote in his mail, a copy of which was sent to Indian Express.
