Gaming as a career has undergone significant changes in the past few years. While budding enthusiasts are exploring the field of professional gaming, others have switched to streaming as a full-time career. Streamer-specific applications have surfaced and other sites such as YouTube and Facebook also have the ability to allow people to live stream their games. However, dedicated streaming services such as Twitch have dominated the market for a while. However, the policies of the streaming services often compelled streamers to switch to other services.

Twitch: What policy changes are being made?

To make streaming services better, Twitch roped in several professional streamers and offered them Twitch Partner services. They were officially a part of Twitch which also meant they had an exclusivity contract. These streamers were not allowed to stream elsewhere due to this contract.

However, the streaming scenario has changed in the last few years. The developers have figured that binding streamers with an exclusivity contract were doing harm to the community and the organization. As a result, Twitch has decided to remove the exclusivity contract from the streamers’ contract.

Starting today, you are now allowed to create live content on other platforms. This means you have more flexibility to explore how to use different, off-platform features to further build your community and interact with streamers off Twitch.

“We still believe that Twitch is the best place for creators to build and engage with their community,” the announcement continued. “We also recognize that the digital landscape has changed since we first introduced the Partner Program and that many of you engage with your communities in many different places.”

This means, that streamers can stream through any other services without facing action from the organization.

What is the catch then?

Although streamers have been given the liberty to stream elsewhere, there is definitely a catch in there. The catch is pretty simple. Streamers can stream on other streaming services, but they cannot stream long durations at Twitch and any other services simultaneously. Short form streams such as TikTok and Instagram Live are allowed. But if one needs to stream through YouTube or any other services, they can do so after the Twitch stream has ended.
