Asia Cup 2022 LIVE: The Tigers were dealt a blow last month when experienced batter Litton Das was left out of their squad with a hamstring injury. Now the pacer Hasan Mahmud and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan have joined the veteran on the sidelines.
Hasan is set to be unavailable for up to a month after he hurt his ankle at training last week. Nurul recently underwent surgery on an injured finger and needs time to rest the affected area.
Naim returns to the T20I side after last playing against Afghanistan in March. He was dropped for the subsequent T20I series against West Indies and Zimbabwe. He has been picked in the squad after scoring runs for Bangladesh A against West Indies A. In particular, he made 103 in the second one-day match in Gros Islet a few days ago.
Bangladesh, however, haven’t selected an additional fast bowler or wicketkeeper to their T20 squad. They will be overseen by S Sriram, who was appointed technical consultant for the T20I side couple of days ago.
Shakib Al Hasan will lead Bangladesh at the Asia Cup after he was re-instated as T20I captain earlier this month.
“I have no goals,” Shakib said recently when asked about how his team will perform at the Asia Cup.
“My only aim is that we can do well in the (T20) World Cup and these are the preparations for it.
“If someone thinks that I can change things within one or two days or someone else will come to change it, then we are living in a fool’s kingdom.
“If you are able to think practically, our true development will be seen when the team really does well in the World Cup in three months’ time.”
