Deepak Chahar was surprisingly dropped from India’s playing XI for the second game against Zimbabwe. The medium pacer was replaced by former CSK teammate Shardul Thakur, sparking debate whether he is 100% fit or not. The official word on his return to the bench is workload management.
Deepak Chahar only made his comeback in the 1st ODI on Wednesday after a six month layoff. The 30-year-old struggled with a quadricep tear followed by a back injury, missing the build up to the T20 World Cup.
Having returned, Chahar gave a reminder of skill set, picking up 3/27 in a seven over burst with the new ball. Zimbabwe never really recovered from that deadly spell and India clinched a rather convincing 10-wicket win.

Deepak Chahar bowled seven overs on the trot in his comeback game and did not return to bowl later in the game on Wednesday. Having been through injury hell, India are opting a cautious approach with the 30-year-old.
With Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel injured, Chahar’s return was a welcome boost for Team India. The CSK star was named as one of the reserves for Asia Cup despite having not played any cricket since February during the announcement.
Now a rest in the just his second game on India return suggests that the medium pacer is yet not 100% fit. The India team management would however be more cautious than careless and try and keep Chahar in the best shape possible for the upcoming games.
