Shastri opined that Arshdeep can be an ideal foil for the Indian attack. especially in Australia, where conditions assist pacers. He has taken seven wickets in the ongoing T20 series against West Indies. The Indian pace unit consists of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah as immediate picks in playing XI.

“I think very close to because India need variety. And in Australia, left-armers normally do a good job. There is bounce and the angle that he creates. He (Arshdeep) will be an ideal foil when you look at the Indian attack,” Ravi said while in conversation at Fan Code.

“It should have Bhuvi, Jasprit, Shami and then if you put him in the mix and all you might know that he might play in one of the games given the opportunity.”

What does Arshdeep bring to the table

  • Being a left-arm pacer, he adds variety
  • He can generate bounce from his height in Australian conditions
  • The left-arm pacer has the ability to bowl with both new and old ball
  • He is an economical bowler, has 6.05 as ER, which is stunning despite him being early in his career
  • He can prove to be a wonderful death bowler

Too much competition: With only 15 players set to be picked for the India T20 World Cup squad, there is strong competition for places in the team. The bowling unit, especially the pacers department is even more competitive.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are set to feature in the Playing XI. But then with Harshal Patel being injured leads to questions about his availability. If fit, he will walk into the side.

Then, there are others in the race too. Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj are also in race for the 15-member squad.

As of now, it remains to be seen if the player makes it to the Asia Cup squad. If he does, it is quite certain that the management is looking at him for the T20 World Cup.
