“The fixtures are not confirmed yet but yes, New Zealand will be visiting India in September. There will be four-day games and One-Day matches during the series. We expect New Zealand to send a relatively strong squad. There will be many India A tours now that Covid has subsided,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Shubman Gill, Priyank Panchal, Prithvi Shaw are expected to be part of India A team for NZ-A series

As per reports, the BCCI is in talks with New Zealand cricket on the composition of the series. But it is expected to have three four-day matches besides five limited-overs encounters including T20s. The series is likely to begin on September 3. As for the venue, it will be decided at a later date due to the monsoon in India. Karnataka is the likely venue for the matches but a call will be taken later.

  • The likes of Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill amongst others have emerged from India A team’s successful tours.
  • With the youngsters warming bench in senior squad, the India A matches offer them crucial game time.
  • The India A tours did not happen for almost two years due to COvid-19 pandemic.
  • But it as finally in December 2021 when India A toured South Africa ahead of the senior team’s tour.
  • BCCI is planning to implement that once again.
  • As Australia will be visiting India for a Test series, the India A vs Australia A could happen before the series.
  • However, it will coincide with Asia Cup 2022 and the players who will miss out on the squad, will get a chance in India A.
  • As for venues, it will be decided later but Karnataka is the frontrunner to host the matches.

India A’s last assignment was against South Africa A in December

New Zealand A series will be the first of many with Australia expected to send its A team during India tour in November.

“We are in talks with a couple of boards on future tours. We will have a better idea in the coming days. For now, New Zealand are Australia are two series that we expect to go through,” the official said.

However, the India A series will coincide with Duleep Trophy. That could see BCCI fielding a young side mostly consisting of U-23 players. Duleep Trophy is scheduled to begin on September 8.
