Formula 1: Ferrari’s team principal Mattia Binotto has said that the F1-75 challenger was not fast enough to claim the victory at Hungaroring in the form of the Hungarian GP, regardless of what the group’s messed up strategy involving Charles Leclerc. After the Hungarian GP got concluded, Binotto claimed we lacked pace at the Hungaroring and said, “Today the car was not performing the way we were expecting it to, and that was the issue more than the strategy. Carlos’ strategy was the same as Hamilton’s and it didn’t work either.”
“The performance of the car did not give us the freedom to do what we wanted and we were forced on the defensive. The pace was different from what we saw on Friday, we were not fast enough in the race today in these conditions. Something did not work on the car,” Binotto added.
“We did notice that Charles was faster than Carlos – like Hamilton was faster than Russell – but as we saw, Hamilton’s strategy did not work for Carlos either. Then of course we need to analyse if it would have worked for Charles. The biggest problem today was the car,” Binotto concluded.
The Monegasque was in the blend for the race win at the Hungaroring yet ended up being put onto the hard tyres for the last spell of the Grand Prix, in a move that immediately turned out to be not in favor of the group.

Meanwhile, it’s not the first time we have seen errors made by Ferrari in terms of strategy this year. There have also been issues with the reliability and a couple of driver mistakes, which implies we go into the late spring break with the two titles going out of the Italian side’s hand.

The race was run in much cooler circumstances contrasted with the free practice sessions toward the beginning of the weekend, where Ferrari had looked more lively and quicker. It obviously had its impact in their drop-off on Sunday, however, staying Leclerc on the hard tyres just intensified the misery further.

The summer break comes at a great time for Ferrari as they can get their heads straight and start fresh. Meanwhile, they will be hoping to return half a month from now and obtain a few improved results on the board from Spa onwards.
