CWG 2022: IOA issues Covid advisory to athletes, requests them to limit time in public places during the course of CWG 2022While all the athletes have started reaching Birmingham, Covid continues to remain a threat. But unlike last year’s Tokyo Summer Olympics and Beijing Winter Olympics where strict Covid guidelines were in place that included the creation of a bio-bubble, the organisers of the CWG 2022 Birmingham have put in place a more relaxed approach. Players participating in the Games will be allowed to step out and spend time in public places across the city.
While this approach is being lashed out by other countries, the Indian Olympic Association too has requested the members of the Indian contingent to limit their time in public places as Covid 19 could jeopardize the health and participation of the players. They are also adviced to take safety precautions wherever needed.
The upcoming Games is set to feature 214 Indian athletes across 16 different sporting events. Meanwhile, two Indian cricketers could not fly out to Birmingham as they have contracted the virus. While the names of the cricketers are not revealed, both the players are unlikely to feature in the opener against Australia.
