It took Dhawan 53 deliveries with 8 fours and 1 six to score his half-century. Dhawan got a great accompaniment from his young opening partner Shubman Gill who also scored a magnificent half-century to keep India on top of the West Indies. Dhawan continued his charge and missed his century when he was dismissed on 97.

Shikhar Dhawan has been subjected to criticism off late for his poor performance. However, recently the Indian opener shrugged off the criticism by claiming that he has been called out for not scoring runs for almost a decade. With KL Rahul eyeing a return to the Indian team, Shikhar Dhawan will have to continue scoring big runs to keep him in contention for the Indian Playing XI.

Shikhar Dhawan has been determined to score runs and thus sweated it out in the training nets yesterday. Taking on a weakened and mentally exhausted West Indies side that was whitewashed by Bangladesh last week, Dhawan took no mercy to punish the Caribbean bowlers.

The current captain of the Men in Blue for the ODI series and the senior player of the team, Dhawan has showcased leadership and responsibility from the very fast over of the game. Putting back his disastrous form against England, Dhawan silenced his critics with a fine knock.

Shikhar Dhawan Recovers from Poor Form:

  • Shikhar Dhawan went on to score a wonderful 97-run knock in the 1st ODI against West Indies.
  • He reached his half-century in 53 balls with a steady knock consisting of 8 fours and 1 six.
  • Previously in England, Dhawan managed to score 41 runs in 3 innings with a mere average of 20.50 and a strike rate of 49.39.

In the three ODI matches that Dhawan played against England, he managed to score just 41 runs with an average of 20.50. What is even more surprising is Dhawan’s poor strike rate of 49.39. Dhawan’s highest score came in the first ODI match at the Oval where the Men in Blue comprehensively defeated England by 10 wickets. Dhawan played a fine knock of 31 not out in that game. In the 2nd ODI at Lord’s Dhawan played an exceptional slow knock of 9 from 26 and in the 3rd ODI, he was dismissed cheaply at 1 from 3.
