Despite both Silver Arrows crashing in qualifying, they achieved good results at the Austrian Grand Prix. It was Hamilton who took his third successive podium finish and his fourth of this season at the Austrian GP while Russell claimed the fourth position.

After the Austrian GP, Wolff stated: “It’s just that we are missing a few tenths here and there. I think we’ve halved the gap over the last few months. We understand better, but we’re still third, fourth – we’re somewhere right in the middle of nowhere.”

He further added: “For sure [the qualifying crashes] didn’t help, because even though you can set up and measure the car… it puts you on the wrong foot right away.”

He was also overheard saying, “But if I tried to choose the positives, with today’s race pace, if we would have – which we didn’t – started right in the top six, possibly we could’ve hung on to Max [Verstappen] and not been that far out.”

Wolff also told, “Paul Ricard should be alright. It has fast corners and a smooth layout similar to Silverstone, so it appears, at least on paper, that we can perform well there.”
