CWG 2022: India sprinter Dutee Chand is hoping to return back home with a medal from the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 4x100m women relay. The quadrennial event is scheduled for July 24 start. The sprinter from Odisha believes that the team comprising the likes of Hima Das and others can deliver their best at the Commonwealth Games and bring laurels to the country. The Indian 4x100m women relay team comprises of Hima Das, Dutee Chand, Srabani Nanda, MV Jilna, NS Simi and S Dhalalakshmi. Only four of them will be on the track for India at Birmingham. They have been spending some serious hours of training, getting into the best of shape ahead of the big test.

There is a reason for Dutee to be quite confident of a medal finish at CWG 2022. All the sprinters have delivered the goods in the 100m sprint events recently, improving their personal best. The team has that self-belief now, admits Dutee.

“Actually, we were not vert strong in the 100m relay, but all of us have been doing really well in the respective 100m events. Some of us have achieved our personal best also recently. If you consider that we are expecting to turn up with a good timing at Birmingham in the relay. So we know there are chances of a medal,” Dutee told InsideSport.

As of now, Hima, Dutee Chand, Dhalalakshmi and Srabani are the four runners, who will represent India in Birmingham. Dhalalakshmi, who will feature in the 100m women’s event at the CWG has also made for the Athletics World Championships.

Overall, there is huge expectations from the Indian contingent heading to Birmingham. The 215-member contingent is expected to bring a record number of medals. The IOA recently also announced cash prizes for the medallists. Gold medallists will be handed Rs 20 lakh while it is Rs 10 lakh for silver and Rs 7.5 lakh for bronze winner.
