Kohli missed the T20I series against Sri Lanka at home before IPL 2022 and was not part of the home series against South Africa in June. Kohli also missed the 2 T20Is in Ireland to prepare for the rescheduled 5th Test in Birmingham.
On Saturday, former India batter Ajay Jadeja said India have to make a choice about whether they have to play Virat Kohli in T20i cricket.
“Virat Kohli is a choice that you have to make. Do you want to play that solidity at the top and then get runs right at the back? It’s that old-style when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will bat at the top and you would have players like Dhoni where they get 60 in the last 4 overs. In the last game, they got less than 35 runs in the last 4 overs.,” Jadeja told Sony Sports.
“It depends on whom you want to play. I feel you have a choice, it’s a touch one to make. If I had to pick a T20 side, Virat probably won’t be there,” he added.

Kapil Dev on Virat Kohli: Kohli hasn’t been among big runs for nearly three years now and the World Cup winning all-rounder feels that Indian team management will be doing disservice if in-form players aren’t given enough opportunities to showcase their skills.
“Yes, now the situation is such that you might be forced to bench Kohli from T20 playing eleven. If world No. 2 bowler Ashwin can be dropped from Test side then (once upon a time) world No. 1 batter can also be dropped,” Kapil told a news channel.
Kapil had no hesitation in saying that Kohli is currently looking like a shadow of his old self.
“Virat is not batting at a level which we have seen him do over the years. He has made a name because of his performances but if he isn’t performing, then you can’t keep the performing youngsters out of the team,” said the legendary cricketer.
