India Squad T20 WC: India vs England LIVE: As reported by InsideSport earlier, Team India will go with format-specific pace bowlers lead up to T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The white-ball series against England is the first hint at what is to come. Mohammed Shami will not be in plans for the T20s. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will slowly make way for young bowlers in ODIs to keep the pace battery fresh, as per a selection committee member. Follow IND vs ENG T20 Live Updates on InsideSport.IN.
“Shami isn’t getting any younger and we need him fresh for Tests. That is why he is not being considered for T20s. We have had a chat with him post-T20 World Cup on his workload management. This is how it is going to be now. For now, he is not in plans for T20s and the focus will be on youngsters,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.

Mohammed Shami, who has been an integral part of India’s all three formats, has not featured in any T20s since the T20 World Cup last year. For Bhuvneshwar Kumar, although he was part of the squad in ODIs, he is unlikely to feature in any, to give chance to the new generation.
For the England series, Shami is not in T20s and Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been rested from the ODI series. While a BCCI official hinted that Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been rested to keep him fresh for the West Indies tour, InsideSport understands that it is not the case.
Head coach Rahul Dravid has asked for format-specific bowlers to keep the pace battery fresh with back-to-back series and very little rest. The only pacer who will continue to feature in all three formats is Jasprit Bumrah.
“Bhuvneshwar is not completely out of the plans in ODIs. But for now, we need him at his best in T20s keeping the T20 World Cup in mind. In ODIs, we will have a mix of both experienced and youth,” the selection committee member said.

India Squad T20 WC: Why Team India is planning for format-specific bowlers?
- The primary reason is workload management.
- Jasprit Bumrah will continue to play all three formats but he will skip the less important T20 series or the ones at home.
- The focus is on managing BUmrah’s fitness and workload keeping three ICC tournaments in the next three years.
- Mohammed Shami did not have a great T20 World Cup. Although he made a strong comeback in IPL 2022, he is deemed to be a surpass in T20s considering the bench strength India currently have.
- Shami has not featured in any T20s since the T20 World Cup and has not been included in T20 squad for England series.
- The case with Bhuvneshwar Kumar is that BCCI is also concerned about his fitness. He has already been omitted from Test squad due to recurring injuries.
- He is not part of the ODI squads for England and West Indies.
- As per BCCI officials, he has been ‘rested’ from the ODI series to keep him fresh for West Indies tour and Asia Cup.

Instead of Shami-Bumrah-Bhuvneshwar, Team India will have Bumrah-Bhuvneshwar-Harshal as the pace attack in Australia. Hardik Pandya will act as the fourth seam option besides spin in Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Although the focus is currently on T20 due to the World Cup, the team management has also set plans in motion for the 2023 ODI World Cup that India will host. Arshdeep Singh is likely to feature in the plans.
