Neeraj Chopra National Record – Stockholm Diamond League: Neeraj Chopra delivered an impressive throw of 89.94m, missing the 90m mark by a whisker in the Stockholm Diamond League to win silver. His former coach Kashinath Naik believes that Neeraj Chopra can breach the much-talked about 90m mark and win a medal in the World Championship, which starts from July 15 in Eugene, United States. “Neeraj is in good form. He must be further confident now. After this new national record in Stockholm, I am quite sure that he will throw beyond the 90m mark and bring a medal in the World Championship ,” Kashinath Naik told InsideSport.

Neeraj Chopra was at his impressive best at Stockholm

“If you look at his throw, he was super close to the 90m mark also. See, there is not much difference in the 89.94m and 90m. He just missed it by a few cms.”

This medal winning performance at Stockholm Diamond League does not come as a surprise. He has been consistent with his throws this season. He threw the spear 89.30m to win silver at the Paavo Nurmi Games in June. Neeraj followed that with a gold at the Kourtane Games with a throw of 86.69. However, his biggest test will lie in the World Championship.

The competition in the World Championship is going to be even more intense. With the likes of Johannes Vetter, though not in great form, expected to compete, winning a medal  is not going to be a walk in the park. With World Champion Anderson Peters in hot form this season, one can expect a top fight for the gold medal amongst other contenders.

“The competition is going to be good in the World Championship. There is not  a major difference between the top throwers in the world, and it depends on who manages to shine on the day to win a medal. One of the best thing about Neeraj is that he has been very consistent now. For that reason, he has a good chance of a medal at the Worlds,” Kashinath said.
