As per a Guardian report, the rain began to blow sideways. And the photos on social media show how the horrifying weather have lead to a chaotic situation, especially around the makeshift stand. The seats have been crushed. The entire roof has almost been dismantled.

The struggle did not end there as the pouring rain meant that the groundsmen had to ensure the grounds were covered throughout. The heavy rains made their task even more difficult with the gust of wind forcing it everywhere.
Around 12:30 pm IST, the covers were gradually removed with the sun also peeking out at the Galle International Stadium. Despite an improved weather, the game could take some time before play resumes on Day 2.
