IND vs ENG LIVE: Hanuma Vihari ready to bat at any position for India, says “You can’t complain when you are playing for India”Hanuma Vihari has put his hand up to fill in for the opening slot should Rohit Sharma miss out on the IND vs ENG 5th Test at Edgbaston. Should the Hit-Man miss out, Vihari has no qualms jumping up the order to fulfill the team’s requirement.
Speaking to the New Indian Express, he said, “It can get challenging. But whatever games I get to play, I try to do my best for the team and contribute as much as I can. You can’t complain when you are playing for India because there is lots of competition.”
Head coach Rahul Dravid also echoed a similar sentiment in a press conference. Dravid believes that it was always an opportunity to contribute to the greater good and no decision is forced on the players.
He said, “It’s not very different batting at three or opening, it’s not a huge difference. If a team requires it or a team demands it, at times you do it and you do it willingly. It’s not like you’re forced to do these things. You know, you understand your role in the bigger picture, you understand your opportunity. I always see this as a great opportunity to contribute to the larger good and to the whole.”

Incidentally, Vihari has opened for India previously back in the 2108 tour of Australia. He had earned praise from then captain Virat Kohli. The 28-year-old did not make a significant contribution, scoring just 8 and 13 at Melbourne. However, he batted out for more than an hour making conditions easier for the batting order.
Hanuma had to toil for years in the domestic circuit before getting into the Indian team. The 28-year-old has been around the set-up for the last five years. He however has featured in only 15 Tests, most of them away from home.
Speaking about his journey, he said, “I had to struggle in domestic cricket for a long time. I’ve been performing consistently in the domestic circuit to make it to the national team. So I know how to be patient in terms of waiting for my opportunities.”
He added, “So that journey itself shows I have been waiting patiently for a chance by performing well for years together. I would say I’ve earned my place in the Indian team.”
