Wimbledon 2022 LIVE: Defending Champion Novak Djokovic advances to third round, defeats Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets

Novak Djokovic v Thansi Kokkinakis

Djokovic was imperious from the start against the World No. 79, striking the ball cleanly from deep and moving smoothly around Centre Court in one of his most complete performances of the year. The six-time champion broke Kokkinakis five times on his way to a two-hour victory that extended his winning-streak at SW19 to 23 matches.

John Isner vs Andy Murray

John Isner sent two times champion Andy Murray crashing out of Wimbledon with a 6-4 7-6(4) 6-7(3) 6-4 victory in the second round. Isner displayed a barrage of booming serves and aces in a second round clash on Wednesday.

While 37-year-old Isner strode closer to Ivo Karlovic’s aces record of 13,728 on the ATP Tour, Murray made his earliest exit despite battling back from the brink by winning a third set tiebreak.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Tallon Griekspoor

Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz put down an impressive marker on the Wimbledon lawns as he breezed passed Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor into the third round on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old fifth seed needed five sets to beat Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff on Monday but turned it up a notch against Griekspoor to win 6-4 7-6(0) 6-3.

Casper Ruud vs Ugo Humbert

Frenchman Ugo Humbert forgot his rackets but definitely brought his A game to Wimbledon on Wednesday as he recovered strongly from a shaky start to beat French Open runner-up Casper Ruud 3-6 6-2 7-5 6-4 in the second round.

Emma Raducanu vs Caroline Garcia

Emma Raducanu’s Wimbledon hopes were ruthlessly crushed on Centre Court by France’s Caroline Garcia as the golden girl of British sport suffered a 6-3 6-3 second-round loss on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old, who rocketed to fame with her spellbinding U.S. Open triumph last year, did not play badly but had no answer to Garcia’s superior firepower.

Ons Jabeur vs Katarzyna Kawa

Tunisian third seed Ons Jabeur continued her strong run on grass to reach the third round at Wimbledon with an easy 6-4 6-0 victory against qualifier Katarzyna Kawa of Poland on Wednesday.

Currently at a career-high world ranking of second, Jabeur is considered one of the favourites for the title after arriving at the grasscourt Grand Slam having lifted a WTA 500 trophy in Berlin on the same surface two weeks ago.

Garbine Muguruza vs Greet Minnen

Belgium’s Greet Minnen registered her first career win over a top-10 opponent to beat former Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza of Spain 6-4 6-0 in a rain-hit first-round match on Wednesday.

Minnen came into her first meeting with world number 10 Muguruza, who won the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon the following year, having lost all three of her matches against players ranked in the top 10.
