Manchester United Pre-Season: Erik ten Hag takes charge of first training session
Van de Beek has been handed a lifeline at United with the appointment of Ten Hag, having played just 70 Premier League minutes for the club in the first half of last season.
Another loanee, Brandon Williams, who spent last season at Norwich City, where he established himself and made 29 appearances, was also back in the building, although United are believed to be open to offers for the 21-year-old full back.
David de Gea, Luke Shaw and Phil Jones were also among the first-team stars to return to Carrington on the first day of ten Hag’s new era. The Dutch boss arrived on Monday at 8am, driven by a chauffeur.

Newly appointed assistant coach Steve McClaren was also pictured pulling up at Carrington, 21 years after leaving his role as Sir Alex Ferguson’s No 2 at Old Trafford.
Several first-team stars will not be in attendance after playing in June’s Nations League international matches, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.
But despite a sizeable number of absentees still enjoying their holidays, there will still be 15 senior players turning up for their first season under ten Hag – including out-of-favour England duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.
