BGMS Day 1: The opening night of India’s first-ever televised esports event, the BGMI Masters Series, kicked off with all its might. Introducing a fresh genre of sports to the mass audience, the entertainment is going to last quite a while.

After four breathtaking matches across three different maps, Orange Rock Esports has prevailed at the table topper from day 1 with 58 points. Following them is team Orangutan at second place with 48 points. BGMI Masters Series Day 1, BGMS, BGMS Day 1

But these two are far from safe from Chemin Esports who is at third place with 36 points but by playing only two matches while the table-toppers have played all four. This is due to the group division format. All the 24 teams have been divided into three groups – A, B and C, where group B were included all the four matches today.

Chemin Esports high octane performance in the opening matches is undoubtedly keeping them ahead of the curve with an average of 18 points per game. Now, keeping aside the numbers game, let’s get into today’s match stories.

BGMS Day 1 Summary

Match 1

With favourites like SouL sitting out in this match because of group divisions, all eyes were on team Godlike to start the tournament with a huge lead. But nothing seemed to have worked in their favour right from the start. The team lost Zgod in an unfortunate drop clash in Yasnaya and the broken team scattered away for survival.

But given the experienced lot they are, the favourites still managed to secure fourth place by playing according to the central zone shifts. The team also managed to wipe team Blind along the way and secured some precious finish points. Team Godlike eventually got eliminated at fourth place but the worthy contenders were still going strong.

During the end circle, how Rocksta from R-Esports held his end while going solo against 3 players from Chemin Esports was a treat to the eyes. His blazing reflexes surely made the job tough for Chemin but they still managed to claim the chicken dinner with 28 total points. Delta PG from Chemin Esports became the match MVP with 5 finishes.

Match 2

The second match on Miramar against groups A and B had an excruciatingly slow start. There was not a single elimination till 14 mins into the match. With a dangerous and overly large playground to survive in, every single team was too cautious to take any chance in early fights. However, this made their job only tougher as the circle closed in. With the mid-eastern shift of the circle, the teams were forced out in the open and take fights in the hilly terrains.

Orangutan Esports with a perfect high ground advantage also got favoured by the zone and secured the chicken dinner effortlessly with dozens of free kills. It was a whopping 30 points boost for team Orangutan on the scoreboard but how they planned to take the momentum forward remained to be seen, especially when they are not blessed by zone advantage.

Match 3

The fan favourite and BMPS champions SouL finally landed on the battlegrounds in the third match along with all the teams in group C. Going up against the already warmed-up teams from group B, it was a risky choice to go up against them in a head-on fight. But a champion like SouL understands the dynamics at play and went for a smart heal battle in this Sanhok match.

Being rational, even team SouL themselves didn’t expect that they will finish 3 on just depending on heals. Looks like the heal-battle meta on Sanhok isn’t going anywhere. After a chaotic blood bath in the sixth circle, it was team Blind and Orange Rock Esports left, going against each other in a 3v3 situation for the top spot. Although Blind was the first team to land the opening blow, it failed to capitalize on the same due to its overly passive approach. Team Blind consciously let the advantage slip away from their hands as Orange Rock gained a free pass to the chicken dinner.

Match 4

Back to Erangel for the final match of the day, all teams from group B and C were looking forward to a huge points leap to end the day. However, the battle-hardened squads were already too strong to keep up with Orange Rock, Orangutan Esports and 8bit, each one of them went off the hooks and brought true calamity on the Gatka side circle. The squad face-off between 8bit and OR Esports was a breathtaking moment but no one expected that it will be Team XO who’ll claim the chicken dinner with that deadly third party.
