Mason Greenwood bail: Manchester United footballer remains on bail

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has had his bail extended following a court hearing on Thursday, police have confirmed.

“Following a hearing yesterday (Thursday 23 June 2022), a 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape, assault and making threats to kill on Sunday 30 January 2022 remains on bail,” a police statement said.

“As the outcome of bail reviews does not impact the progression of investigations, Greater Manchester Police will not be providing any further updates in relation to this case until the suspect is charged or released facing no further action.”

The 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of rape, assault and making threats to kill on January 30. Greater Manchester Police continue to investigate the allegations and Greenwood remains suspended by United.

Greenwood has been suspended by United and has not played for the club since the Premier League fixture against West Ham on January 22. After initially suspending their relationship with the forward, Nike has also confirmed that their partnership with him has ended. Electronic Arts confirmed his removal from active squads on its FIFA 22 game also.

Greenwood came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford and became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer at 17 years, 353 days in a Europa Leaguer clash against Astana in 2019.
