In a stunning statistic, Team India are yet to register a win across all formats of the game without Rohit Sharma in the starting XI. In the Hit-Man’s absence, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and now Rishabh Pant have all tried their best, but victory seems to have deserted the Men in Blue.
The year started with India’s loss to South Africa in the 3rd Test, which marked the end of Virat Kohli’s reign as Indian captain. KL Rahul led the team in the ODIs, but India suffered a humiliating 3-0 whitewash. Rahul had also led India in the 2nd Test, which India conceded in a 2-1 series defeat.

Rohit Sharma then returned to the side for the home leg and India registered comfortable series wins over Sri Lanka and West Indies across formats. With Rohit resting and KL Rahul injured, Rishabh Pant was handed the mantle, but India have slipped to defeat in both games under his leadership.
Rishabh Pant however could break the rut and India would hope so when they take the field on Tuesday for the 3rd T20I at Vishakapatnam. With India 2-0 down, a defeat would mean a series victory for the visiting Proteas, who have won their last seven games against India in all formats. India having missed out on a world record earlier this series, would aim to avoid a series defeat especially with the T20 World Cup on the horizon.
