As per reports, Sujan Mukherjee was unhappy with free access to the ground while also not managing the newly purchased ground cover well. As people, journalists and members could freely enter the ground, it could damage the playing surface.
“Even CAB members are not allowed to enter the outfield. But here, it’s like a family picnic. Thousands of people are walking on the expensive ground cover. People are taking selfies with their families. People are even spitting on the ground. Conditions are pretty bad,” lamented Sunjan Mukherjee to Kolkata TV.

Cuttack last hosted an international match back in 2019 between India and West Indies. But with the 2nd T20, OCA made big preparations. From repainting the stadium to getting new LED floodlights and ground cover, OCA hasn’t left stones unturned. But it’s the mismanagement that is bothering the guest curator.
The ground cover was purchased for Rs 78 lakh from England in order to prevent the outfield from being damaged due to rain. As monsoon is approaching Odisha, there could be scattered rain. But the OCA groundsmen are not trained to handle such a ground cover.

“The expensive ground cover needs to be managed properly. You need to put a weight of 2.5kg on them. But I still haven’t got them. We must have at least three drills and I have only managed to conduct one, that too without the weights. I still haven’t received the weights that need to be put on the covers,” Mukherjee added.
The 2nd T20 will be played on Sunday at 7 PM. Team India will practice at the venue on Saturday 5 PM.
