IPL 2022 Betting: Delhi Police bring major crackdown on IPL betting, arrest more than 3500 in two years – Check details

As per an ABP new report, Delhi Police has arrested 3502 people in relation to an illegal betting business active in the national capital. The police state that all arrests have been made as per information and data available until May 15 and a large number of bets were placed on IPL games. All accused have since been arrested under the Gambling Act by Delhi Police.

As per Delhi Police data, the business was in place for the last two years in the NCR region. Earlier in 2021,  2011 cases of betting were registered.

Statistics show that in the year 2020, 2414 people were booked for illegal betting. Apart from this, there were 2339 cases of betting in the year 2019. It is being told that criminal cases are already registered against many people involved in this business.

Delhi Police said that while the business was predominantly set in NCR, the accused used to run the business through a network, spreading to further cities across the country, with communication established through phone calls.

A senior Delhi Police official said that in most police stations, a separate team has been formed to nab bookies. He further told that Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana has issued strict instructions to rein in bookies.
