Ricciardo, who finished 14th in the qualifying session at Monaco GP, said after the session “I do have a contract in place. But personally, I don’t want to be 14th, that’s not why I race, let’s put it like that. I still, obviously, even after a day like today, have 100% belief in myself and ability.”

“[That] probably makes the result like this hurt more. So that’s kind of where I feel or how I feel. It’s one of those things you just got to keep going. I would love to be in a different position, but I refuse to let it beat me down,” the ‘honey badger’ further added.

Ricciardo joined McLaren from the erstwhile Renault last year after signing a three-year deal that locks him till 2023. His triumph in Monza last year was one of few good results in a troublesome beginning to life at the group and there have been not many indications of progress in 2022.

At Monaco GP, Ricciardo qualified fourteenth for the main event, and his teammate Lando Norris took the fifth place after having a great qualifying session. For someone who has previously won this race, it was an unacceptable outcome.

Meanwhile, McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl even backed Ricciardo and claimed that the team will help build the drivers’ confidence and also provide them with a competitive car.

“We have a contract in place with Daniel also going into the next year. We’ll use all our energy and our focus in order to find these last percentages,” he said.
