IND vs SA T20 Series: From Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Venkatesh Iyer, 5 players for whom South Africa series will be MAKE-or-BREAK for T20 World Cup

1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Insidesport

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was part of the T20 World Cup squad last year but has blown hot and cold ever since despite being one of the finest death bowlers in the country. The veteran pacer has some serious competition with a host of young Indian pacers coming up with Umran Malik, Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh all vying for a spot in the side. The Sunrisers star will once again need to showcase his quality and prove his worth to the selectors and the team management.

2. Venkatesh Iyer

Insidesport

The Indian management have kept their faith in Venkatesh Iyer despite the KKR star enduring a torrid time in IPL 2022. The pace bowling all rounder was impressive last season and made a mark having made his debut for India late last year, but will face the pressure to fulfill his promise, especially with Hardik Pandya’s return to form and full fitness.

3. Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi has has a mixed season with Lucknow Super Giants this season, but his stellar debut earlier this year saw him retain his place in the side. With Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal forcing their return in the team and the presence of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, Bishnoi will need the weight of performances to force his way into the mix and the South Africa series provides him the perfect platform.

4. Ishan Kishan

With Rishabh Pant almost certain to feature and the comeback of Dinesh Karthik, Ishan Kishan will need to put his hand up after a disappointing IPL 2022 season. Kishan had made the T20 WC squad last year but was dropped after India lost their first two games, in a disastrous campaign. The Mumbai Indians star has since failed to make the most of his chances and given the competition for places, he will need to step up against South Africa.

5. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Insidesport

While Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are set as openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad will be fighting off competition for the 3rd openers’ slot in the side. Despite a contrast from his Orange Cap heroics this year, the team management have shown faith in Gaikwad over Shikhar Dhawan and the CSK star will aim to prove his doubters wrong against South Africa.
