Farwell theme named after Symonds nickname ‘Celebrating Roy’-
- The farewell service will be held at Townsville’s Riverway Stadium from 2:30 pm until 4 pm (local time) and will be open to the general public.
- Five of Australia’s cricketing greats and close friends of Andrew Symonds will speak at the memorial service for the late great all-rounder this week.
- Matthew Mott, one of Symonds’ childhood friends and the newly-appointed England white-ball coach, will also speak at the memorial.
- Symonds shared close bonds with Gilchrist with whom he won two World Cups, while Matthew Mott was his teammate at Queensland Bulls.

Symonds’ close mates–
- Matthew Mott and Symonds played cricket together growing up and famously put up a mammoth 446-run stand while playing for Gold Coast against South Brisbane at the under-19 level.
- Ian Healy and Maher, played together with Symonds at the state level for Queensland, with the latter being a close confidante of the late all-rounder.
- Gilchrist and Symonds were close friends and the star wicketkeeper helped turn the latter into a commentator for Fox Sports and described Symonds as ‘having a security blanket’ in the team.
- Darren Lehman was also part of the ‘Golden Generation of Aussie cricket with Symonds when they won the 2003 World Cup together.
