In the two losses in the last two games, it was apparent that Lucknow’s batting was not up to the mark. They were bowled out for 82 against Gujarat Titans and could only manage 154 against Rajasthan Royals.
It is their middle order that has faltered more often than not. While Deepak Hooda has been the only positive, youngster Ayush Badoni’s willow has been silent for far too long. In bowling Dushmantha Chameera has not been amongst wickets and has been expensive.
LSG Playing XI vs KKR: Badoni, Chameera and Pandya goes out
- Ayush Badoni after the initial success has failed to fire.
- In fact, in the last seven matches, Badoni’s returns are: 5 off 7 vs RR, 13 off 13 vs RCB, 14 off 11 vs MI, 4 off 4 vs PBKS, 15* off 18 vs KKR, 8 off 11 vs GT and 0 off 1 vs RR.
- As Badoni has been assigned a finisher’s role in the team, the team expects more from him. In fact, he has not managed 100+ strike rates in his last four matches.
- Similarly, Dushmantha Chameera has also been misfiring.
- In the last four matches, Chameera has taken just two wickets but has conceded runs at an economy rate exceeding 8.
- In the last match against RR, Chameera gave away 35 runs in four overs without any returns.
- Krunal Pandya has scored 64 runs in his last 4 matches and has not picked up a single wicket.

As for other places, KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock need to fire from all cylinders against a resurgent KKR. They are on the ropes and will be at their best. Deepak Hooda has been excellent and he will be key for Lucknow.
Avesh Khan’s variations and slower deliveries will be helpful in death overs while his pace with the new ball could rattle KKR openers, who are not in good touch.
