In a must-win game to qualify for the playoffs, Delhi Capitals needed to defend a total of 160. The DC bowlers managed to take three wickets within the powerplay by dismissing Bairstow, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Shikhar Dhawan. Especially Rajapaksa and Dhawan were dismissed within the span of three deliveries by Shardul Thakur.
Axar Patel, who entered into the contest with 99 wickets to his name was introduced into the attack in the seventh over of the innings and he took his 100th wicket in style in just his third ball of the innings. He bowled a terrific arm ball that crashed the middle stumps, dismissing Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal.

This particular wicket initiated a batting collapse as soon after the wicket, Punjab Kings lost seven wickets for just 82 runs on the board. Axar Patel took his second wicket in his last over with another arm ball crashing the stumps. This time the batsman was Rishi Dhawan, who departed scoring just 4 runs. Axar Patel conceded just 14 runs in his quota of four overs in the match.
With his two wickets in the game, Axar Patel has now picked up six wickets overall in the tournament in 12 matches.
