Jitesh Sharma is not young by age. He is 28-year-old and has got his opportunity to play in IPL only this time. But in 10 matches, he has scored 171 runs at a strike rate of 167.65. Furthermore, he has impressed behind the stumps. With his wicketkeeping skills, he has even kept Jonny Bairstow out of keeping duty.

The other one who is on selectors’ radar is Mohsin Khan. The 24-year-old fast bowler from Lucknow Super Giants has been impressive. He has been difficult to read and has managed to pick wickets without conceding many runs. He has an impressive economy rate of 6.08, the best amongst all pacers.

However, both Mohsin Khan and Jitesh Sharma are not guaranteed any place in the Playing XI. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Avesh Khan and Prasidh Krishna being the first-choice seamers. The keeping duties will be between Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Dinesh Karthik.

Mohsin Khan’s selection is based on the lack of left-arm seamers in the current India set-up. Currently, India have no left-arm seamer in the core group. Khaleel Ahmed was tried for a while but fell out of favour.

“Yes, there is a dearth of left-arm seamers in the current India set-up. That is the reason we fast-tracked Chetan Sakariya and Arzan Nagwaswalla. But they are not yet ready. Khaleel has played international cricket and has done well this IPL. Mohsin is also an excellent talent who needs to be groomed,” the selection committee member told InsideSport.
