Rajasthan Royals:
- Rajasthan Royals (RR) are the current hot favourites to play GT in Qualifier 1, if RR win their remaining encounter against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) they will be through to Qualifier 1.
- They will hence get two opportunities to make the final, no matter what happens with matches involving other teams.
- RR currently has 16 points and a very good Net Run Rate (NRR). If they win against CSK then result of LSG won’t matter.
- A defeat will also see RR make the Qualifier 1, but will then have to depend on other teams losing their matches. This includes LSG, RCB, PBKS and DC.
Remaining Match – RR vs CSK, Friday, May 20
Lucknow Super Giants –
- Until their defeat to RR on Sunday, LSG had their fate in their own hands and were sitting in the second spot. They are now third and will need to beat KKR in their final match to leapfrog RR.
- LSG will also need CSK to beat RR in their final game as they can’t finish in the top two without a helping hand.
- A win for LSG and a defeat for RR will see them finish on 18 points and thus occupy the second spot
- Anything less than a win or a RR win against CSK will see LSG make the Eliminator instead.
Remaining Match – KKR vs LSG, Wednesday, May 18

- Mathematically, RCB still stand a chance of making the top two and qualify for Qualifier 1, but that remains an outside chance.
- As things stand, RCB can only reach a possible of 16 points if they beat league leaders GT in their final game.
- RCB will need to win by a big margin and then will need both LSG and RR to lose their final two games by a big margin as well.
- In this scenario, RCB will end on 16 points, level with RR and LSG and thus NRR will decide which team goes through. If RCB do manage to get a better NRR and both RR and LSG lose they will qualify for Qualifier 1.
- The above scenario also includes both PBKS and DC not to reach 16 points as they already have a better NRR than RCB and will thus finish above them.
Remaining Match – RCB vs GT, Thursday, May 19
Punjab Kings –
- As things stand PBKS are seventh in the IPL standings, but have a better chance to qualify for the Qualifier 1 than RCB due to games in hand and superior NRR.
- PBKS will need to win remaining of their two encounters against DC and SRH while also hope RR and LSG lose their remaining matches.
- If PBKS do win their remaining matches, then an RCB win is academic as they have better NRR than them.
- In this scenario, PBKS will end up on 16 points, level with RR, LSG and RCB (If they win) and NRR will come as the deciding factor. If PBKS end up having a better NRR than rest of the teams why will qualify for Qualifier 1.
- A defeat in either of their two matches for PBKS will see them stay out of contention for Qualifier 1 and face GT.
Remaining Match –
- PBKS vs DC, Monday, May 16
- SRH vs PBKS, Sunday, May 22
IPL 2022 Qualifier 1: Gujarat Titans assured to play Qualifier 1 in Kolkata on 24th May, check who can be their OPPONENT for place in IPL 2022 Finals?
Delhi Capitals –
- Technically, the DC require same set of results as PBKS to qualify for the Qualifier 1.
- Victories in their final two matches coupled with defeats for RR and LSG with big margin will see the scenario come to NRR on 16 points.
- A RCB win still remains academic, if DC win both their matches because of better NRR
- A defeat in either of their matches will see DC miss out on a place in the top two and thus the Qualifier 1.
Remaining Match –
- PBKS vs DC, Monday, May 16
- MI vs DC, Saturday, May 21
KKR and can still qualify for Playoffs but cannot finish in the top two. While SRH’s poor NRR will see them eliminated technically in the coming days. MI and CSK are technically eliminated from the IPL playoff race.
