Charles Oliveira exceeding UFC legends: ‘Do Bronx’ just steps away from having the most title defenses in UFC history. Unfortunately, at UFC 274, Oliveira became the first UFC champion to have lost a title due to missing the division weight. The Brazilian weighed 155 pounds, making him half a pound heavier in the lightweight division, and his title was stripped off.
However, Oliveira defeated Justin Gaethje via submission, while the lightweight belt remains vacant now.
MMA Star Journalist Ariel Helwani, on his show The MMA Hour, made a significant statement comparing Khabib Nurmagomedov and Oliveira.
He said,“I think that people get somewhat clouded by his early days in the UFC. Some of the stumbles and the mishaps and the failures on the scale and whatnot. But if you actually look at his resume, as of late – Michael Chandler is a hundred percent right. His resume right now – over these 11 fights – is way more impressive than Khabib’s. It’s just the body of work that hurts him because he has eight losses and one no-contest.”
The Eagle is undefeated in his career, and Oliveria is undefeated and had critical losses early in his career.
Islam Makhachev, on the other hand, is a byproduct of ‘The Eagle,’ as the ‘Do Bronx ‘fight over him will demonstrate if he can truly surpass Khabib.
@danawhite you have no other choice but make Oliveira vs Islam fight in AbuDhabi 22 October.
Perfect date, Perfect location,Perfect opponents with perfect winning streaks 10 vs 11.@MAKHACHEVMMA @ufc— khabib nurmagomedov (@TeamKhabib) May 8, 2022
Eventually, Khabib tweeted Dana White for a match-up against the both of them in Abu Dhabi on October 22. The match would be a most spectacular one in the lightweight division.
The lightweight division is the UFC’s new hotbed. With the title being vacant, Michael Chandler’s return, Oliveira’s comeback for his title, Dustin Poirier, and Islam Makhachev all have their eyes on it.
