The circuit had secured a new deal with Formula 1 which will ensure its presence on the F1 calendar till 2026. This year’s first Pre-season Testing also took place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where we got a glimpse of how the new cars might look in Barcelona.

When was the track built?

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was built as a feature of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics improvement program. The establishment stone was laid in 1989, while the first vehicle race was a series of the 1991 Spanish Touring Car Championship.

When was its first Grand Prix?

Two weeks after the Spanish Touring Car Championship race at Barcelona, it was Formula 1’s move. The track enjoyed a scintillating debut of F1 as Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna’s renowned eyeball-to-eyeball race down the straight before Mansell started to lead the pack and drove on to triumph.

Who won the last Grand Prix?

It was Mercedes’ driver Lewis Hamilton who won the 2021 Spanish Grand Prix. He was followed by Max Verstappen in second place and Valtteri Bottas in the third position.
