Miami GP: Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel launch unique protest against FIA at Miami GP: The two-time Formula 1 champion and the seven-time F1 title holder Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have both launched protests against the FIA in their own respected manner. It was evident as both the drivers in a non-verbal way stood against FIA’s new rule of ‘no jewellery’ and ‘long underwears’ which are fire-resistant. The statement from FIA read, “The International Sporting Code states that drivers must wear “long underwear” as well as other fire-resistant clothing that are homologated to FIA standards. It also states that wearing jewellery during competition “in the form of body piercing or metal neck chains” is prohibited.”

But, Aston Martin’s driver Vettel seemed to giggle prior to waving his hands in a confused manner. The main point of talking about today’s press conference was the abolishment of jewellery. Vettel feels the topic is ‘unnecessary’ and is straightly aimed at the Brit driver.

Probably at this stage it’s more of a personal thing, and I feel particularly in a way targeted to Lewis. We spoke about underpants as well, but really is that the most exciting thing we can talk about?” Said Vettel.

Even Lewis Hamilton was seen donning three necklaces, rings on every finger, and three watches at the press conference today. He is against the FIA’s notion and is not afraid to even pay for his consequences as he claimed ‘Mercedes does have a backup driver.’

The Brit after having accumulated just 28 points from four races said, “I couldn’t get any more jewellery on today! I feel like it’s almost like a step backwards, if you think about the steps we are taking as a sport, and the more important causes that we need to be focused on.”
“I think we’ve made really great strides as a sport. This is such a small thing. I’ve been in the sport for 16 years and I’ve been wearing jewellery for 16 years. In the car I only ever have my earrings on and my nose ring, which I can’t even remove. It seems unnecessary for us to get into this spat. So I will try to communicate and work with Mohammed [Ben Sulayem, FIA president]. I’m here to try to be an ally of the sport, of Mohammed and F1,” Hamilton concluded.
