Thomas Cup 2022: India have named a strong men’s team for the Thomas Cup 2022 and with strength in all the departments, the team that comprises Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, Satwikairaj Ranki Reddy & Chirag Shetty among others, have the potential to go beyond the quarterfinals. The men’s team comprises 2021 World Championship Silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth, bronze medalist Lakshya Sen and 2021 Swiss Open finalist HS Prannoy in singles. While top doubles players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty leads the doubles, alongside M.R Arjun, Dhruv Kapila, Krishna Prasad Garaga, and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala.

Srikanth, Prannoy and Chirag-Satwik duo have quality and experience on their side, while 20-year old Lakshya’s youthful energy and ability to handle pressure. With these qualities, they can win three points against any team in the competition. India has reached the semifinals in 1952, 1955 and 1979 and this year, the team has a golden chance to even better those performances.

India find themselves in Group C alongside Chinese Taipei, Germany and Canada. Chinese Taipei too sport a strong squad with Chou Tien Chen and Wang Tzu Wei in singles and Lee Yang/ Wang Chi-Lin and Lu Ching Yao / Yang Po Han in doubles. The Chinese Taipei – India group match could be a cracker of a contest and an indicator of their future fortunes.

Canada’s top player in Brian Yang in singles who is in a good form in the last few months. They also have Jason Anthony Ho-Shue & Nyl Yakura in doubles, who can pose a challenge to India. India is an overwhelming favourite against Germany. Their doubles pair of Mark Lamfuss and Marvin Seidel won the recent European Championship and their matchup with the Chirag-Satwik duo could be the match of the tournament.

India is expected to easily progress to the quarterfinal and is expected to put on a much better show compared to the last edition, where they bowed out in the quarterfinals.

Indian men’s team will begin their campaign on May 8 against Germany. On May 9, they will face Canada and will face Chinese Taipei on May 11.
