IPL 2022: RR skipper Sanju Samson reveals learning trick of the trade from Rahul Dravid, says “I noted down everything in a notebook”
In an interview on Breakfast with Champions, Sanju Samson shed light on how the time spent with Rahul Dravid shaped his career. Samson had attended a Rajasthan Royals trial and was lauded by Dravid which paved for his initial stint with RR. Samson then moved to Delhi with Dravid as a coach but returned to the Royals in 2018, before being named captain last year.
Speaking on the trial, Samson said, “I batted in the trials for two days, and never have I been able to match the standards of those two days in my entire life. I’d hit a shot and a voice would come from behind, ‘what a shot. Shot Sanju’.”
Samson added that Dravid helped him grow as a cricketer and a person and he has tried to imbibe the Indian coach’s qualities in his persona. He added, “We all had that kind of experience with Rahul Dravid, to learn from him. Those 3-4 years that I spent with him, I feel I’ve almost asked him everything. Everything is still written in my notebook. After talking to him, I would go back to my room and quickly jot down what he said.”
