Speaking on RCB’s Bold Diaries, Shankar Basu, who has earlier worked with the Indian team as the strength and conditioning coach said, “We are trying to build muscle mass. We are trying to get that mass. T20 also requires a lot of explosive moves. Force production is a byproduct of T20. It’s a mandatory thing for him to be strong. He is also having the World Cup round the corner. So as a long-distance call as well as a short-distance call, it’s the same.”
He further added that for every athlete the fitness regime has to be tweaked constantly to achieve greater results. “Can’t actually do the same thing over and over again. The program has to change. Every year, we need to start tweaking. Track what’s needed and evolve accordingly. There’s nothing much. Keep doing the simple things, boring things consistently, that’s the mantra.”
The former Indian captain has been out of form with the bat for a while now. He got out for a first-ball duck in two consecutive games this season and had a string of low scores, before finally registering his maiden IPL fifty this year against Gujarat Titans in RCB’s previous match.
In 10 matches so far, Kohli has scored 186 runs at a strike rate of 116.25. He needs many more knocks like the one against Gujarat Titans in the IPL to get back to full confidence as his form is very crucial for India, going into the T20 World Cup that is scheduled to be held in November this year.
